Gaiman
I don't have answers, or takes. I'm not telling you how to think. Nor am I looking for answers, here. You go be the smartest person on your page.
I read the new article.
It sucks. Gaiman, it appears, really sucks as a human being.
Separating art from the artist is a bad take, in this case. Because he hurt people. He violated trusts.
It's hard to understate the high regard Gaiman was held in. For decades. What Sandman, and Good Omens, and Stardust, and Neverwhere....what his body of work meant to the SF/Horror/Fantasy community. What is personality out in the Con World meant to a community that has has lived on the margins until only very recently.
Hard to understate why it hits so hard that he hurt people. Hurt a large part of the community he helped to lift up.
There's a lot to digest. The Scientology connection. The fact that kids were involved in this. What role did Palmer have in being complicit, if only by turning a blind eye.
I can only tell you how disheartening it is. And I don't even consider myself a big Gaiman Guy....though I've gifted several copies of Good Omens, and a couple copies of American Gods in my time.
A couple friends really are Big Gaiman People. And it's painful to watch.
