Yeah, It's late
The original plan was to try the Dusk-to-Dawn Show at the Midway Drive-In. Those plans fell through.
There was also an attempt at a baseball game in Chattanooga. It was mostly successful. We were subject to a 90 minute rain delay in the third inning, although there were fireworks in the middle of the delay. They had been scheduled for the end of the game, but were let off at 9 so those with younger kids could go home. Steven and I ended up leaving in the sixth inning, which is completely against both our natures. However cleaning up pug shit in the house was a very high possibility, and that was even more repugnant and contrary to my nature. So we headed up to Athens.
The Lookouts (Chattanooga's team) have a good deal going on in Chattanooga. They moved out of Engel Stadium to Bellsouth Park a couple or three seasons ago.
Engel Stadium was a really great old stadium that I only got to see a couple of times. It was built in a time where people went to the game for baseball, and weren't bored when it was just baseball there. It's not far from downtown Chattanooga, about a mile from U.T.C. and Erlanger Medical Center.
I can't describe it well because I've only been a couple of times. It's an older stadium along the lines of Fenway, only wedged against the river instead of into a city block. When I lived in East Tennessee, I hadn't gotten clued in to how great minor league baseball is until I moved to Middle Tennessee. We only went to Engel Stadium a couple of times. I really wish I'd gone a few times more.
The Lookouts' park is now Downtown, a part of the tourism quarter of the revitalization of downtown Chattanooga. It's right next to the Tennessee Aquarium and the Creative Discovery Museum.
If I had to think of a Major League Park to equate it to....it's a lot like a very small version of Turner Field, only without all the accoutrements. It's very functional.
There's not a lot of space to hide if it starts raining.
