Tuesday: a Few Broad, Unbalanced Opinions
Well, it's election day out in Calimafornia.
Personally, I'll be happy when this whole mess is over and done with, and I don't have to hear about the California gubernatorial situation.
Once upon a time, Letterman had a top ten list of words it's cool for Barry White to say. And Gubernatorial came in around #4, I believe.
At its beginning, I was kind of seeing this whole thing as a joke. I was saying Vote Coleman! and all that jazz. Because I think Gary Coleman belongs in American politics.
I still believe that.
I still believe the election is still a joke, only it's not as funny to me, anymore.
There are a couple of bloggers out of California that I read who have posted opinions on the recall. Glenn, at Hi! I'm Black is firmly indifferent, I believe. I think his quote is "I could give a shit about politics."
Emily, at Give War a Chance has taken the position that I would were I a California resident. Vote No, she says. I agree. What a tremendous waste of time and California's already limited resources.
To me, blaming Davis for the financial mess of his state is like blaming my roommate for the nation's air pollution. It was all this way before he got here (though he's not doing anything to make things better, and it's a certainty that replacing him can only make things marginally better, and that's if he does a crackup job).
And Cruz Bustamante, while having the coolest name in politics for quite some time, should be disowned by the Davis camp should Davis come through the recall. I mean, he's not even giving lip service anymore, it seems, to "Vote No on the Recall, but if you must, vote Bustamante!"
Now, it's "Vote Bustamante!" screamed at the top of his lungs.
I hear it in Tennessee.
To me, the thing that bothers me about this whole mess is how this is all a larger version of the new American ethic: If you don't get your way, if you bitch and whine enough, you'll eventuallyl get your way. Nobody seems to be able to accept a result if it doesn't go their way, anymore.
But I digress. It all affects me very little, aside from its abstract entertainment value. Still, I'll watch tonight's news.
No wait. We got Cubs and Marlins in the NLCS! Screw that whole California election thing.
Vote No on the recall. But if you must vote yes, Vote Coleman.
